The 15th annual Cleveland Aquatic Centre Swimathon organised by the Rotary Club Redlands Bayside made a splash in a day of laps, laughs and purpose, raising funds for a crucial septic tank to support 450 students at Sunrise of Africa School in Kenya.
Families, friends and local supporters took the plunge in a day of fun under sunny skies in Queensland, bringing the event’s total impact to an incredible $260,000 raised for both local and global charities across its history!
Swimmers dove into the water for life-changing laps, backed by their fundraising sponsor.

“It is such a privilege to be associated with Rotary and their tireless fund-raising efforts over so many years. To think that the power of our small community is doing such amazing things on the other side of the world,” said Leanne Clarke, Front Line Coordinator at Cleveland Aquatic Centre.
The funds support eco-friendly sanitation for Kenyan students, many of whom lack access to running water at home. The biodigester system will recycle water and improve hygiene and sustainability at the school within a new toilet/shower block, making a lasting difference to quality of life.

Gary Baldwin, Gold Coast Area Manager also shared:
“The generosity of donors from around the world and the enthusiasm of our local swimmers on the day helped to achieve the fundraising goal in full. Thank you to the Rotary Club for running the event at our venue with great success.”
The annual Swimathon is proof that when communities come together, even across continents, they can make waves of change for the better.
