To help communities build and maintain lifelong healthy habits, Liverpool venues Michael Clarke Recreation Centre and Whitlam Leisure Centre have launched a series of exciting health and wellbeing upgrades, valued at $1 million dollars.
Open to the public from October 2026, Whitlam Leisure Centre has launched a large-scale $800k Health Club upgrade, aimed at significantly enhancing the member experience and offering.
The upgrade includes 30+ new pieces of cardio equipment, new plate and pin loaded equipment, a new HIIT Zone and renovations to the gym flooring, bathroom and group exercise space.
A stone’s throw from Whitlam, Michael Clarke Leisure Centre rolled out a brand-new Reformer Pilates studio on October 12. Locals also had an opportunity to join in an Open Day on the 11th, to test out the new equipment for free.
Rob Tomasums, Area Manager NSW said that Belgravia Leisure is committed to supporting Liverpool City Council in its mission to provide high-quality guest experiences for its residents and communities.
“The spaces serve as a major addition to our health and wellbeing offering here in Liverpool,” said Rob.
“By investing in our community and increasing their access to welcoming, quality environments, we’re encouraging participation in positive, long-term exercise habits whilst they build strength and social connections.”

Designed with accessibility in mind

The Health Club at Whitlam has been intentionally designed as an accessible space, including wheelchair access and the use of six HumanSport machines from Nautilus on the gym floor. Cable-based machinery, like the Shoulder Chest, adapts to the user’s strength goals in both seated and standing positions.
Scott Ryding, a Novofit representative, endorsed the Whitlam upgrades.
“This site is now one of the most unique and well equipped Local Goverment Area (LGA) venues in the country, from a product selection and innovation perspective.”
Muhammad Abbas has been a member of Whitlam’s Health Club for one and half years and said “I’m very happy with the new upgrade and equipment we can use. I’ll be coming here for a long time.”
Creating memorable guest experiences
Alecia Ebersole, Venue Manager at Michael Clarke said that the new Reformer Pilates Studio aims to create deeper satisfaction for members and guests, meeting the changing needs of the community.
“We are so excited to welcome the community to come and try our new studio. It includes 12 beds, with four touch screen kiosks installed for access to virtual-led classes.
“A dedicated timetable and instructors create a premium experience from start to finish, with new members inducted into the room to ensure safe and effective usage of equipment.”
With over 114,000 group exercise classes delivered across Belgravia Leisure venues in FY25-26, the organisation is committed to helping communities stay active and well.
