In a world that rarely slows down, Michael Wenden Aquatic Leisure Centre has given the community a much-needed pause with its recent Yoga Retreat Day.
The retreat – a rejuvenating event focused on wellness, connection and self-care – welcomed people of all fitness levels for a day of beginner-friendly yoga, guided meditation, breathwork and holistic wellness. It was a chance to unplug, breathe deeply and reset both body and mind under the guidance of experienced instructors.
Recognising the everyday juggle of work, kids and life, the venue made the event family-friendly, allowing parents to bring their children while learning techniques they could use daily. From stretching to breathwork, the sessions offered simple tools to help reduce stress whilst increasing flexibility.

“The Yoga Retreat Day was a fantastic opportunity for our community members to pause, breathe and focus on self-care,” said Wishy Murimba, Community Engagement Coordinator. “It was inspiring to see so many people come together to embrace wellness and build connections within their community.
“A standout moment was the group meditation session, where participants embraced mindfulness to boost emotional clarity and balance. The energy was calm with many sharing how refreshed and inspired they felt afterwards,” Wishy explained.
The day received glowing feedback long after the mats were rolled up, the venue is already planning future wellness events to continue supporting the community’s physical and mental wellbeing.
