Bundaberg Aquatic Centre, Bundaberg’s newest aquatic and fitness hub is now open – and thousands of excited locals dove into a blockbuster community weekend of free swimming.
Over 1,600 community members attended on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th December to celebrate the grand opening of the venue, proudly managed by Belgravia Leisure on behalf of Bundaberg Regional Council.
Caitlin Hird, Venue Manager at Bundaberg Aquatic Centre, said:
“The opening of this world-class venue in time for summer holidays marks a new era for the Bundaberg community – it’s set to become the region’s premier destination for aquatic leisure and competition level swimming.
Our weekend was a huge success and lots of families and kids attended, dove into the fun and praised the amenities which was a pleasure to see. It was great to officially open the doors to the public.”

A community hub for all
The venue has been carefully designed to cater to all ages, interests and abilities – a few community members were able to use hydraulic lift access to pools, highlighting the accessible equipment on offer.
Clinton Croft is a wheelchair user and came along to learn more about the amenities including the hoist system to access all three pools.
“This is one of the better complexes I’ve seen anywhere in Australia,” Clinton said.
Lap swimmer Glenda David took the plunge in the 50m Olympic sized pool and said she could see herself using it a couple of times a week. She commented:
“It’s beautiful, really beautiful. I like the temperature, so that’ll be great for winter. Come on down and have a swim!”
Bundaberg Region Mayor Helen Blackburn formally acknowledged and thanked all of those who contributed to the successful opening of the Aquatic Centre for the community. She commented:
“The Aquatic Centre is a vital asset for health, wellbeing and community connection and its successful opening reflects the hard work and collaboration of everyone involved. I thank Belgravia for their professionalism and partnership in bringing this project to life.”
