Imagine needing a vital scan but having to travel hours to get it. This is the reality for many Australians living in regional areas without local access to vital services such as MRI machines.
The Mallee MRI Appeal has set out to change that – raising funds to bring a life-changing diagnostic service to Swan Hill. Now, thanks to the support of the community and local organisations like the Swan Hill Aquatic & Recreation Centre, the appeal has exceeded its target, raising over $2.6 million and turning a long-held dream into a reality.
An open day at the Swan Hill Aquatic & Recreation Centre raised $1,600, helping the appeal to reach its milestone. Locals turned out for $5 entry, enjoying everything from a group fitness class and reformer Pilates sessions to pickleball, a sausage sizzle, the pool inflatable and face painting, with all proceeds going directly to the cause.
“We’re really proud to be able to support such an incredible cause,” said Area Manager (VIC) Karla Barnes. “Having access to this equipment in Swan Hill will make a huge difference to many people in our community.”
Soon, residents will no longer have to travel long distances for vital diagnostic scans, with the new MRI service set to benefit generations to come.
