Yawa member Rachael raises over $6,000 for child protection through national running challenge

When Rachael Maddock, a courageous member at Yawa Aquatic Centre crossed the ultra-marathon finish line this July, she raised more than $6,000 for the Australian child protection charity Bravehearts, supporting its mission to create safer futures for children and families across Australia.

The demanding Bravehearts 777 Marathon is a seven-day challenge involving seven half marathons across seven states and territories, with Rachael running from Perth through to the Gold Coast Marathon.

Supporting safer futures for children

Bravehearts is an Australian child protection organisation dedicated to the prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse. Rachael’s campaign has helped to fund vital education, counselling and advocacy services that protect and empower young people.

“I entered the Bravehearts 777 challenge not knowing if my body would be able to hold up with the huge amount of running I’d be completing over the seven days but knowing I’m doing it for the kids helped me cross the finish line,” Rachael said.

Inspiring teams and communities at Yawa Aquatic Centre

In a show of support, the team at Yawa have supported Rachael through generous team member donations, encouragement and raised community awareness throughout her fundraising journey.

Yawa Aquatic Centre Venue Manager Pat Otten stated Rachael’s commitment had inspired both team members and fellow members at the venue.

“Rachael’s determination, resilience and commitment to helping others have inspired our team and members.”

“Completing a challenge of this scale while raising funds for such an important cause is an incredible achievement. We’re proud to celebrate the positive impact she is making in the community.”

Reflecting on her journey, Rachael added:

“I chose to support Bravehearts because it’s an amazing feeling to help spread the word about the work they do, while I keep up my fitness by running alongside a team of national runners.”

Rachael’s fundraising journey is a reminder that perseverance and purpose can go hand in hand, transforming a personal challenge into meaningful support for others.
