Two teams at Valley View Golf Course (VVGC) turned a summer day into a test of endurance, completing up to 72 holes of golf to raise funds for Cancer Council’s work in cancer research and prevention.
Their efforts were part of The Longest Day, a national challenge that pushes golfers to play from dawn to dusk while fundraising for a cause that touches every community.
What is The Longest Day?
The Longest Day is an endurance golf marathon designed to test skill, strength and stamina. Participants aim to complete either 54 holes (The Longer Day) or 72 holes (The Longest Day) from dawn to dusk, all while raising funds to help Cancer Council continue its mission to prevent cancer, empower patients and save lives.
Over $3,400 raised for cancer research
For Jim Champion, Matthew Williamson, Adam Williamson and Peter Stinear – the team known as Chip Happens – the challenge meant 54 holes and $2,600 raised. That contribution funds 52 hours of a research assistant’s time, helping drive studies that save lives.
Dean, Laurence and Michael Spasojevic, playing as The Brogans, went further with 72 holes and more than $800 raised, enough to fund 16 hours of research assistance for critical cancer projects.
Impact beyond the fairways

VVGC Venue Manager Zac Packard said hosting charity events like The Longest Day reflects the venue’s commitment to community.
“Golf brings people together and when that energy supports something as important as cancer research, it’s powerful,” they said. “Seeing these teams push themselves for a cause that matters inspires everyone here.”
The course is proud to be a hub for the local community, offering a welcoming space for golfers of all ages and skill levels.
“We extend our heartfelt thanks to both teams for their incredible commitment and to everyone who supported them. Your generosity makes a real difference in the fight against cancer,” Zac concluded.
