Michael Clarke Recreation Centre’s brought inclusive sport to life by hosting Heroes with Ability, who made a free, all-abilities multisport Gala Day at the venue possible. The team energised students from primary school to high school in the Liverpool community.
Alecia Ebersole, Venue Manager at Michael Clarke Recreation Centre, said:
“Hosting this Gala Day with the Heroes with Ability team allowed everyone to feel included and celebrated while getting involved with sport. It’s the third year we’ve partnered with them and it’s fuelled our desire even further to provide opportunities for people living with disability.
“The live music and cheering from participants on the grandstands brought so much energy and excitement to the day. It was great to see that movement in all forms fosters joy and connection.”
Heroes with Ability were formed to inspire, teach and motivate communities in all aspects of health & wellbeing, social inclusion and community awareness for people with physical and intellectual disabilities. They make regular visits to the venue on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 9am-12pm.

Several ambassadors attended to support and run the program alongside Heroes with Ability team members and volunteers. Indigenous Ambassador Todd Dorward, who attended, commented:
“Sport is of vital importance to many communities – it is our honour to work with Aboriginal people and people of all abilities to bring their sporting dreams to reality.”

As part of the day’s celebrations, participants received medals and winners were awarded with a place on the prestigious Gala Day shield.
“The energetic founders and facilitators, Marco Quintao and George Tonna, delivered a truly amazing experience for all participants – they brought smiles to their faces and provided encouragement to those who needed it,” continued Alecia.
