We have absolutely loved watching our Australian Paralympians represent the country with pride, but nothing compares to the thrill of seeing our very own Ahmed Kelly, Jesse Aungles and Ricky Betar shine on the world stage at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris. Their incredible performances have resulted in Gold, Silver and Bronze, leaving us bursting with pride.
Ahmed Kelly – Silver Medal in the 150m Individual Medley (SM3)
Ahmed Kelly, who trains at WaterMarc in Victoria has once again showcased his extraordinary talent by securing a Silver medal in the 150m Individual Medley (SM3). After a dramatic start with a disqualification scare in the heats, Ahmed’s dedication and talent got him silver.
Ahmed finished with an impressive time of 3:02.16, just behind Germany’s Josia Tim Alexander Topf. Ahmed’s remarkable achievement mirrors his success at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. His journey from training at WaterMarc to the Paralympics continues to inspire us all. Congratulations, Ahmed!

Jesse Aungles – Gold Medal in the 4×100 Mixed Medley Relay
Jesse Aungles, who trains at Canberra Olympic Pool and his team claimed gold in the 4×100 Mixed Medley relay, setting a new Paralympic record!
With the expert guidance of Head Coach Laura Brindley and the support of the Cruiz Squad, Jesse’s commitment, hard work and passion are truly inspiring. A huge congratulations to Jesse and the team on this outstanding achievement. It’s fantastic to see them represent Australia on the global stage.
Ricky Betar – Bronze Medal in the Men’s 200m Individual Medley
Congratulations Ricky on winning Paralympic bronze! We are beyond proud of Ricky Betar, a lifeguard at Burpengary Regional Aquatic & Leisure Centre, for securing a bronze medal in the men’s 200m individual medley. Ricky not only earned a podium spot but also smashed his personal best, setting a new Oceania record with a time of 2:08.69.
Earlier this year, the Burpengary team launched a GoFundMe campaign to help ensure Ricky’s biggest supporter, Mum, Nori, could be there in person to support him. So it’s incredibly special to see Ricky’s family in this emotional moment with him, wiping away tears of pride for their son and brother, who’s made history in the pool!
